Social Action Serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. 1 Peter 4:10
Justice Matters is an Interfaith organization made up of twenty-three diverse religious congregations in the Lawrence, Kansas region. We have come together to move toward a city where justice rolls down like a mighty river. We work toward this vision as an expression of our faith and values of love, relationship, and justice. We lift up these "neighborly" values in contrast to a culture dominated by the pursuit of material consumption and individualism. The way we work can be described in five steps: (1) collectively listening to the concerns and vision for our city among its many residents, (2) voting to select priorities, (3) researching the underlying problems we face and solutions that work, (4) creating the public will to improve our city at system-wide levels through the power of organized people, and (5) monitoring results to ensure the improvements are realized.

Good Shepherd is a long-time supporter of Lawrence Habitat for Humanity. As one of the Covenant churches, Good Shepherd is represented on the Habitat Faith Relations committee and participates in the “Building on Faith” home-build every other year. We support Lawrence Habitat throughout the year with our prayers, offerings, volunteer workers, and occasional lunches for the work crews.
L.I.N.K. ![]() Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen serves hot, nutritious meals four days a week to people seeking physical and often social nourishment. Good Shepherd prepares and serves the meal at least four times a year at the L.I.N.K. facility in the basement of the First Christian Church in downtown Lawrence. Additionally, GSLC provides food items for the annual community Thanksgiving dinner served at L.I.N.K.
Family Promise connects supporting congregations to assist families with children who find themselves temporarily homeless. The Good Shepherd Social Action Ministry (SAM) team supports Family Promise for one week each quarter when the families are housed at Trinity Lutheran. SAM provides overnight hosts, dinner hosts, and children’s activities in the evening.
