Social Action

Serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.   1 Peter 4:10

Habitat for Humanity

Good Shepherd is a long-time supporter of Lawrence Habitat for Humanity.  As one of the Covenant churches, Good Shepherd is represented on the Habitat Faith Relations committee and participates in the “Building on Faith” home-build every other year.  We support Lawrence Habitat throughout the year with our prayers, offerings, volunteer workers, and occasional lunches for the work crews.

L.I.N.K.

Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen serves hot, nutritious meals four days a week to people seeking physical and often social nourishment.  Good Shepherd prepares and serves the meal at least four times a year at the L.I.N.K. facility in the basement of the First Christian Church in downtown Lawrence.  Additionally, GSLC provides food items for the annual community Thanksgiving dinner served at L.I.N.K.

 Family Promise

Family Promise connects supporting congregations to assist families with children who find themselves temporarily homeless.  The Good Shepherd Social Action Ministry (SAM) team supports Family Promise for one week each quarter when the families are housed at Trinity Lutheran.  SAM provides overnight hosts, dinner hosts, and children’s activities in the evening.

Children International

Twelve Good Shepherd families join 278,000 sponsors worldwide to help children struggling in terrible poverty in 11 countries:  Chile, Columbia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Mexico, the Philippines, the United States and Zambia.  Since 1936, the Kansas City based organization Children International has been uniting children in need with individual sponsors whose $25 monthly gift brings real and lasting change to children in poverty.  If you would like more information about sponsoring a child, contact Pastor Ted.
